Team Talk

 "Team Talk"
Finally managed to do my team talk.  Luckily for me I only had to people to show, which made it easier.
I choose to do Google Docs, because I like the idea and I could show everyone live online.

We all stood around one computer and I show them how to find Google Docs and log in.

Both Nettie and Rosemary found the idea "Cloud Computing" really great and could see it being greatly used by library users, particularly those without a home computer.

Over all it was easy to show, and was surprised at what I knew when I was asked!

Know all I have to do is save my work to a CD using a public PC :P which I have tried and couple of times but havent been able to get on a comp!

Docs, Cats and Things?

"Google Doc's, Worldcat, Librarything"

So, google doc's as I've said is good, have just added my first "collaborator" kinda cool!

Worldcat and Librarything are fun, although would need to spend a bit more time finding my way around. But I did manage to add a couple of books to my Librarything, rate them and add tags. I like the idea behind them. Good idea that individuals can have their say.
Look forward to having a play around when I have some more time.

Head in the Clouds!

'Cloud Computing, Cool!'

This is really fun.  I love the idea of Google docs!  I can make documents and be anywhere in the world, log into Google docs, and there they are! woo, awesome, no having to remember a usb stick.

Wow and you don't need to buy software, great for people without their own computer.

I'm sure we will see more people using 'Cloud Computing' at the libraries.

iGoogle

I really like iGoogle, it's cool having all the widgets on one page. Easy peasy!

Wiggy Widgets & Gaggly Gadgets

"Widgets & Gadgets"

I really like Widgets, I use them on my mac 'Dashboard', mainly for the weather, world clock and web cams.  I sort of see it as having a 'bookmark in picture form'
I think these would work really well for libraries, especially a catalogue, as it would save you having go the the library home page.  You could be on the net see a book you want to read and put it straight into a search.

I hope this will be a growth area in the Christchurch Libraries.

Pass it on!

"Marybelle & iPhoto"

Today I finally finished my 'Pass it on'.  Marybelle was my willing victim ;)
She has just brought an iMac so thought it was a good opportunity to teach something I know a bit about, Mac's and iPhoto.

Unfortunately we ended up doing the session over the phone.  But this worked out well, she is learning fast.  I found it pretty easy (as mac's are set up the same, same software etc). I just went slowly and described what I was doing and she followed along on her computer.

Marybelle is turning into a mac wizz!

Wiki woo

"Wiki"

So finally managed to get my Wiki checklist done!  I went around in circles a bit, but finally clicked.  One of the links didn't work, so I couldn't complete that.

I started a page on the CCL wiki, and hope to write about older adults and there use of technology at our libraries (when I find some time)

I will be back to have a look around some of the other staff pages as well, might pick up some tips.

Tricky Wiki

I am just going through my tasks for "wiki's" but a lot of the links are invalid!  which is a bit TRICKY! ;p
